In light of the upcoming MANtra Retreat, September 19th, 20th, and 21st, we have this poem for men to ponder. Please attend and register.
WHEN A MAN IS FREE
A guy must build his own fences
Declare war on the attack of the senses
From this arises a freedom, not without pain
We are talking about the golden practice – abstain
Senses are vents through which we stimulate
Excessive usage though, invokes an ugly fate
They invite toxic, unwanted intruders
Posing first as friends, then turning into looters
And when the unbridled mind releases its soul robbing policy
It is relentless, no remorse, makes no apology
Listen then
A man is strong when exercising mind/sense control
And like an athlete, targets a glorious goal
Enriched he can be in service to the spirit
Approaching life in a tone most coherent
Qualifying as a dedicated husband, devoted father
Heroic human, or mindful monk making it matter
Fences are freeing self-imposed boundaries
They are like breathing fresh mountain breezes
