Astounding Day

Midtown/Uptown, Toronto
It was a personal milestone for me to reach the intersection of the 401 Highway and Yonge St, an approximate 8 kilometre stretch by midnight! That distance amount was added on to an already 5 plus kilometres and for the dance steps I performed at ISKCON Brampton, the total tally being over 20,000 steps.
I was thrilled with the results.
While that burst of achievement came my way despite an otherwise busy day (before embarking on a long ride to Montreal) there were other people who crossed my path that were happy about their personal accomplishment. In Brampton five devotees sat at the sacred fire to receive their initiations. Shakti from Hamilton was particularly happy with being a recipient of her brahminical initiation. Also a couple from Brampton, Visnu Tattva and Narmada received that honour. They were all smiles. Finally a newer couple to join the fold are from Mississauga who eagerly took on their Harinam initiation, or first.
All candidates, new initiates, were euphoric.
At the Toronto ISKCON centre I was enthused to present the evening's Gita class to the crowd on the topic of “The Need for Community.” I referenced the last few verses of Chapter One where Arjuna is overwhelmed by his circumstances. “How will being at war affect family and community situations?”
The congregation listened with rapt attention. What really got the folks on fire was the kirtan at the end. Everyone was on their feet. All this happened before an enthusiastic walk on Yonge St that was solo.
