Montreal, Quebec

A central focus for today for Nityananda and I, coming from Toronto, was to join devotees at Phillips Square. Since 1968, the year our guru, Prabhupada, spent some time in Montreal, Krishna devotees came to this spot, amongst other locations, but Phillips Square remained popular for sharing the sound vibration in the form of chanting also with the wisdom of books all these years.

The weather was great, sunny, and at an 18°C, it was just perfect. Montrealers were happy taking to the books and the mantra. Iman joined us. It was his 22nd birthday. He has a great attitude, sings well and is adept at drumming. He is a regular member of the youth. I was enjoying him and other youth members take the lead, while I backed them. It is important to plan for succession. And why not? They are talented, smart, capable.

Iman took me for a short stretch in his swanky Lamborghini car, to a spot that left me enough distance to get a few steps in. As I ambled along during the time of the sun’s descent, a person with dwarfism, poked his head out of the bus stop unit, and said something in French. He saw that I didn’t comprehend. He then in English expressed how he admired the clothes.

“What religion?”

“Hare Krishna!”

That he looked upon favourably. Then he proceeded to offer his opinion. “Listen, it’s all the same God. There’s no God for this group and a different one for the other.” He wasn’t scolding me but in his mind trying to correct a misunderstanding many religionists hold to themselves.
