High Park, Toronto

Navin, Rsi and I decided to walk more or less in a straight line west on Bloor Street to everyone’s favourite park. From there we would Uber our way back to the temple ashram, our starting point.

What did we see along the way? Well, the city is all hyped-up about TIFF — Toronto International Film Festival, one of the largest and most influential publicly attended in the world. There is a buzz. By the way, as the sun was descending, Navin happened to spot a buzzard, not exactly a turkey vulture, but a sizeable hawk, perched atop a crucifix at a church. It was minding his own business, sitting there like some kind of yogi in meditation. The positioning was perfect, facing the cross and also the sun before it sank. That bird definitely has an advantage being up fairly high. It is an enviable height. I think at times we all wish we were a bird.

It really is a splendid time of the year. The morning and evening air is so invigorating. In general people are rather chilled due to the excellent September weather. In the regional urban parks we spot coyotes and possums. For sighting bears you have to go north in the boreal forest. They are fattening up for the winter.

When on a walk we contemplate our surroundings — the street lights (hopefully), the sidewalk, the people, the buildings, the trees, the birds. A devotee on a trek relates all these objects to the Creator. This is an art — connecting everything to the Connector, the Supreme.
