Yorkville, Toronto
I had gone to the farm where Gir cows and bulls are cared for. Surely, they are content. Each time I go I am struck the same way. The project owned and operated by a North Indian couple, Vishal and Yasomati, is simply dynamic. Two daughters and a son, are also sold out to the cause. Radesh, their boy, just graduated from the agricultural college in Ridgetown, close to where I came from. The three offspring are committed to the life of plants and animals.
It is a life where one becomes dependent on nature. And this year has been a good one with the equal sharing of sun, wind and rain. Speaking of which, in the afternoon, Toronto got hit by extreme conditions — thunder, lightning, and a tornado. Major trees came down. Flooding took place and live wires, like the ones above the temple’s parking lot, came undone. A power outage became our reality through the night. Sirens could be heard through those dark hours. Eventually things calmed down and the torrential nature of things showed their impermanence.
One bright spot that hit the day was the inauguration of a new conference room with a name not yet determined. The interior of our building, a former church, has had this dead space due to the balcony’s multi-level area. It is now re-defined with a useable flat facility. We gave it a try, after a ribbon-cutting ritual, before the lights failed us, and the space is just marvellous. We now have an expanded facility in which to serve our dear Lord Krishna.
