North Bay, Ontario

A sunny day in September cannot be beat. And today being the day that our guru, Srila Prabhupada, was born back in 1896 makes this day very special. I checked on the boys next to me as we accommodated ourselves in a Patel Motel. “Are you Prabhus ready? It’s a special.”

“Yes, we are getting ready.”

So, I went for that usual head start, challenging the road, which happens to be the Trans Canada, going on foot until they caught up to me in the van. Eastward we went. I could not help getting sentimental in my heart especially when I see parallel trails for skidooing which are shared by local pedestrians.

Our destination today was North Bay. I admit, I haven’t been here for years. What a marvelous work was done to clean up the waterfront and turn it into a green wonderland. When people, or in this case town council members put their mind to it, great transformations take place. Nityananda, Sarthak and I were committed to sit down on the grass with Lake Nipissing staring at us in the face as we chanted away.

In the conference room of the Best Western Hotel we shared the spotlight for both Sri Krishna and His dearest son of the modern age, Prabhupada. We incorporated a spontaneous play about Krishna’s birth and also narrated some details of ISKCON’s Founder’s achievements.

As we completed our presentation the warm but fading red sun retreated behind the horizon.
