LAKSHMI'S JOURNEY

Monday, March 23rd, 2026

Brampton, Ontario

Laksmi doesn’t have much time to live. Her medical authorities express that her cancer is too advanced so she decided to intensify her spiritual life. Her sister is very supportive of the move to receive diksha or initiation. Friends she knows also feel that deepening her commitments to Krishna is a good idea, so this evening with a simple ceremony of kirtan, a message from the Gita regarding Krishna’s own commitment to being the dharmic example, we gave her a fresh set of neck beads, and chanting beads and a Sanskrit name, Lola Devi, the name, which is very beautiful, is another name for the Goddess of Fortune. She appeared very happy, as well as the few who attended. It was a short and sweet event involving a quiet setting in a devotee home.

When Nityananda and I drove home to catch a Gita class on zoom, we began to discuss how fortunate she is, provided her last days have little pain. All she has to do is to simplify her lifestyle. There is only the need to keep actions and worries to a bare minimum, listening to mantras, eat easy and simple and gaze at the attractive form of Krishna with a pure smile. There are few obligations that are outside of calming the mind.

I am grateful to the team that gave her all the encouragement over the last little while. They know who they are; They are kind and most caring. Dharma, Manasi, Kamala, Sanatan Sevak have all pitched in with their bhakti (devotion). We all agreed to pray and to give her all the backing she needs. There is some real good karma on top of some negative karma.
