Waterloo, Ontario
It has been some time since I visited our Waterloo ISKCON Chapter, generally a happy bunch working under the direction of a fine human being and devotee. Paramahansa is his name and I am indebted to him for assisting me in physio-therapy when I was healing from knee surgery. Cutting open or dissecting a body is never an easy thing for the patient, therefore we need encouragement of all sorts to help us move along in this challenging world.
To this audience/congregation I chose to speak from the Gita, verse 10.24 on this October day - day 24. The topic is in regards to the opulence of the Absolute, highlighting the attributes or qualities we see in God. The great pundits or teachers of the past identify with six opulences which are wealth, beauty, strength, intelligence, fame, and renunciation. We all sat snugly together to explore these qualifications for the great power we know as God. All of us are given as gifts these attributes but no one possesses them in full. That fullness is reserved for God.
The ego doesn't want to hear that. The ego is toxic and wishes to listen to untruths. This is the sad story of the living entity. At the same time it is the glory of the Prime Entity, who is Krishna.
Our talk was followed up by a kirtan and then prasadam, blessed food, good-byes and then a long drive back home taking double the normal time. The reason — accidents along the way. We are contending with a system that doesn't work. One little mishap occurs on the road and everything comes to a halt or a crawl. We can't often speak of efficiency in this world. It is Kali yuga that we reside in.
