GOD'S LIGHT SHOW

Thursday, August 21st, 2025

Iqaluit, Nunavut

The aurora borealis, the northern lights, are a real sight to see.  The night before, 11:30 PM, was the time our group set their eyes to the sky to view something so dynamic.  To put one in awe is the reaction.

After that great view and a good sleep, we awoke to a clear sky and Frobrisher Bay and adjoining waters were like a mirror.  You couldn’t see a ripple, almost.  We were compelled to go for a walk.  Vasey drove us to the edge of the  Road to Nowhere.  No kidding, that’s what they call it.  At mid morning, my body beckoned for a nap and took in sun and air.  Here, you can learn to slow down.  WE followed a creek, then another, and another, each of them glistening by the might of the sun.

Our destination for the morning’s end was the museum.  WE met with a power outage, but managed to see great displays of artwork and artifacts.  The exhibits give a glimpse of the past rustic ways of life.  We hurried our way through.  A cruise’s crew was about to come to view with pleasure as we had done.

Lunch was at Vasey’s.  His dad, Dhira Nitai, does the cooking.   No deep fry.  It’s healthy stuff!

Tonight defined one of the reasons for our visit to the great north.  The Franco Centre was our venue for “A Monk, A Mantra, and Music” was as our show.  Sergeant Mike of the Royal Canadian Mounted Policy came with wife Janet and son.  We met him on our walk.  What a fantastic fellow and family!

Other persons came, employees of the local governance largely of Indian (from India) descent.  The talk, song, and dance were done with everyone’s involvement.

On my last short walk, I met a local woman and told of our presentation.  “Enjoy the rest of your stay,” she said, “and if you meet some shitty people, send them to me.”
