DAY THREE IN HOLLAND
SAT OCT 11 AMSTERDAM, RIJNKKAN
It’s only Day 3 for this national walk, and in an unusual experience for me, there appears to be a quite good amount of media attention by way of newspapers, although I haven’t spoken to any journalists yet. Apparently, I’ll be meeting one today (Sunday) and also connecting with Jolanda, a relative from my father’s side.
Today was another day to cheer about, one reason being no rain for a third consecutive day. Also, one young friend, Jayden, from Winnipeg, Canada, came to join our troupe near the museum district of Amsterdam. I did not have time to view Rembrandt’s famous work, “The Night Watch” of 1642, or any of Van Gogh’s art. Our priority was walking and keeping the walking jovial. For the most part, all was cheerful despite no sun, however, a slight pain near the left of the groin just flared up. Not since my hernia operation have I felt it. So, breaking or resting along the way makes the difference.
For snacks, wraps are delivered in addition to fruit and green smoothies. At such rest stops, we have the chance to share stories about Krishna and otherwise. Shantipriya, from Suriname, was talking about his encounters with anacondas by the jungles of his country. We were quite absorbed with such ‘real’ interactions.
Storytelling of poisonous snakes was a natural segue as part of an evening sangha at the home of Pavan. For the kids, we spoke about child Krishna. For a later session, we spoke to the adults about the great benefits of pilgrimage.
