A SMALL MONK IN NEW YORK
A small Indian monk appeared in the Big Apple city
Near Strawberry Fields in the park that’s rather pretty
Since weather conditions were ever recorded
The winter account of 1965 was absolutely sordid
Snow piled up to heights that could bury anything alive
That same year, a power outage caused more than a sigh
It was an occasion of a complete culture shock
As the monk trudged from city block to city block
He was curious about the way of American life
With tall buildings and people rushing in stride and in strife
At that time, policies on dog dung were few
And it was somewhat inconvenient as the wind blew
He walked from his apartment to the Superette
To acquire staples he truly needed to get
He contemplated on a four-storey building as a temple
It would be where people could devotionally assemble
He then shifted neighbourhoods to the Bowery
To a rented welcoming storefront for those of little boundaries
It became a blossoming place of a revolution
Of radical thinkers trying to come out of confusion
They came with their musical instruments to play
To the tune of the maha mantra having so much to say
Regarding the benefits engaging divine service
And how it evokes a lovely human surplus
Some came and left never to return
Others went for the long haul in order to learn
The subsequent year was the time to firm up
A commitment when a document did turn up
Papers were signed, it was approved
An ISKCON society, a movement that moved
The small monk, Bhaktivedanta, thought big, did big
Authoring books whose contents were sweeter than a mature fig
