Kamloops, British Columbia

The evenings in much of B.C. is just above freezing which means certain creatures are doing all they can to scurry around and try to fatten themselves up as best they can. In the downtown park of Kamloops one squirrel was eating in addition to stocking up. Some hawks have their eyes on those squirrels. Starving or at least hungry creatures practise jīvo jīvasya jīvanam, a phrase from the Bhagavatam, translates as “one living entity is eating another one.”

Law of nature. I sure am glad to have renounced critter-eating a half a century ago.

Now for the humans: new folks had arrived at Hari Kirtan's home for a gathering of fun and to recognize the beauty of Damodara, who is Krishna himself at a young age. We celebrated this with dhiyas, ghee lamps. It was an experience for those who came to one of these kirtan events.

The children that came with their parents were a little rambunctious, as they were on my last visit here. Somehow we managed to control them. I asked them if they knew the word RESPECT meant. They had to think about it. Finally it came. I encouraged each one to say out the word and that seemed to settle them somewhat.

The potluck dinner was nice and was served at the beginning of the program, at 6:30 pm which I find is favourable to addressing stomach pangs in addition to calming kids.

I took the time to clarify with the new people who Krishna actually is. People hear that as a child Krishna demonstrated a childhood naughty side, however we must also respect his very mature side as the dispenser of the science of the self.
