Kelowna, British Columbia

It was nice meeting Jonathan again, a follower of Jehovah. Back in 2010 I gave a presentation at a rented hall when I spoke about my power walking experiences, delivered some essentials on Vedic philosophy and moved the crowd to chant and dance. Jonathan was one of those people who came to listen and to move to the chant and the beat of the drum.

Krishna Kala, Jaya Govinda, Raj and I were walking near the Kelowna Yacht Club. Jonathan remembered me. It's the saffron cloth on once again, that grabs the attention. We got to talking. And he expressed he was on a deep search. He began to speak statistically about 2½ billion Christians on the planet, 2 billion Muslims and that was one half of the 9 billion people in total on the planet. His point was that many make claim but few have it “in.”

I then quoted from the Biblical teachings, recalling Jesus' words, “Many are called, few are chosen.” Both Jaya Govinda and I jumped to a verse from the Gita (and we said it in Sanskrit) “manuṣyāṇāṁ sahasreṣu ...” translated as “out of 1,000 men, one searches for truth ...”

In any event, in our dialogue with our friend we came to the conclusion that God is love, or the reverse - love is God. We embraced. He carried on and so did we.

Another fellow, this time a tourist from Calgary, took interest. He's Filipino descent, and wanted a photo taken with a monk. He declared himself a Christian (not necessarily a Catholic). He was interested in the moment with not a municipal sculpture but a living monastic — something different. A great connection for the both of us.
