Hamilton/Niagara

Matt opened up his new yoga facility called Sohum Studio near hip Hess Village in Hamilton. He very much believes in an inauguration with kirtan so that's what it was – an opening or cutting the ribbon with transcendental sound. Congratulations, Matt, with this great initiative of yours!

Moving on down the Queen Elizabeth Way is the Firemen's Park in Niagara Falls where an outdoor event awaited, a havan (fire ceremony) event staged for an initiation for Reeshu. Her new name is Ragnesvari, and it is the first of such an event with our community here. Congratulations! By the way, this ancient practice of havan involving a fire has nothing to do with the fact that the fire brigade will come to rescue us in case our little fire flares of on the fireman's turf. By saying that, I am being a bit facetious, but more seriously, fire as one of the prominent elements has consumed so many of our forests this year. It has been disastrous.

By 11 p.m. I was back home in Toronto. I was rather restless and went for a stroll. When midnight struck, I met a group of guys in Yorkville, and one of them asked the classic question. "You're a monk?"

"Yes, I am."

"Buddhist?"

"No, Krishna!" I smiled.

"Sanskrit then? From India?" He introduced himself with a handshake and I mentioned I'm known as The Walking Monk. "I'm the Walking Jew." He was feeling generous. "Here's a donation. I know you guys feed people."

My new friend whipped out three one-hundred dollar bills for the cause. That's generous.
