The Krishna Fest Road Show continues this day in Barrie, at the Collier Street United Church. The main worship area is nicely maintained. The banquet hall where we were to perform needed a bit of cleaning on the stage especially. It is not a complaint. Mohit and Raina, the enthusiastic couple, are grateful that we have the space in the downtown core.
The program was to start at noon. We had only an hour and a half to piece everything together for an arati service, a kirtan chant, and a delicious lunch, and last but not least, the drama The Gita. Lighting needed to be checked, sound as well, tables and chairs to be laid out. At the same time, it gets thrilling. Everyone is scurrying about. We squeezed in a ‘dry run’ of the play, yet included the technical elements as best we could. At such a rehearsal we go for a non-stop run through to establish the flow of continuity. The exercise pays off. The energy level is high.
“Okay, boys (the actors). Get into your costumes.” The doors opened and people ready for a bhakti experience moved in for chairs to relax in. The age range was phenomenal, from young to old. Audiences like this one tend to be conservative. Stiff maybe, but by the time we completed our presentation there are smiles and people jumping.
Isn’t that what life should be about – a light celebration? Why can’t it be more like that? I mean -–count what you’ve got – that should help a lot. It’s attitude I got!
