SEEING A GUY WITH FEATHERS

Mud Creek, Toronto

Paul and I took to the trail. Entering a ravine in Rosedale along Mud Creek, it was, as usual, warmer down below, and very tranquil. But just prior to our reaching the base of the ravine, we heard something that is somewhat rare to hear in the daytime. There, perched on a branch, no higher than 10 feet from the ground, was a great owl. His hooting was clean and sharp sounding. In some ways I found this occurrence to be more rare than seeing a bear. It was relaxed and it turned its head, oscillating as owls do.

Paul and I got rather close to this gorgeous and somewhat camouflaged creature which didn't seem to be intimidated at all. We thought that perhaps we could step off the trail, but really, you don't want to disturb this lovely wise thing. Just let it be, was our thinking, even if we sacrificed getting a real good shot of it. We were thrilled like anything.

Whenever I come upon a find like this, I just thank Krishna like anything for providing a great punctuation in the span of the forest.

Our walk was just terrific because of the owl and the sighting of a car as well. Truly, the birds enjoy spring. It is their comfortable season. I believe the other pedestrians we passed felt the same. I can never say enough about the value of taking that stroll. Apart from the dance/trance lessons I gave at the meditation night in early evening, I just really get that thrill and chill from the walking. I hope more people can get out of the car and experience the real travel. May the source be with you!
