Minneapolis, Minnesota
I stayed overnight with a marvellous couple, Senthil and Jyoti, from South India. I woke up to a gorgeous sky that the bedroom window revealed, and I stepped out with Senthil for a trail in Eden Prairie, headed for healing waters that come out of a natural spring. Since the time of the Dakotas this water is very much sought after. Once we reached there, at the bottom of this valley you hear, then see the flow of Riley Creek. There we met a man, a local who has ventured here for the last 30 years and was astounded to see, for the first time, a huge carp trying to scale the cascades. The man was stunned. It did look like the fish might not make it to it's higher elevation.
I suppose devotion is like that - you jump for a higher elevation and keep trying. You might not make it to your destination, but you will be given another chance, perhaps in the next life.
At last morning I was taken to another suburb, Plymouth, where a Krishna community is flourishing. As usual, whenever Bhakti Yogis come together, there are sweet exchanges, mantras and meals. Here we enjoyed a fusion of Indian and Italian (maybe Italian could be a word) cuisine. The final wrap up for this day was a sangha at the very home of Senthil and Jyoti.
While numerous wild rabbits are at play in the greenest of neighbourhoods, our social networking entailed food too, but also poetry, Gita verse memorization, Krishna book reading and an energetic Q and A session. We were jumping the cascade.
