Deland, Florida
Veda Foundation is the location for our weekend medical conference. The spread of trees, swamp, and dry lands is over one hundred acres of a former Boys’ Scout camp. At 4:30 AM, the bells start ringing in what’s been converted into a temple housing the deities of Chaitanya and Nityananda, two great spiritual healers of the 15th and 16th centuries, Bengal.
Here in Orange County of Deland, is the gathering of medical Vaishnavas from different parts of Florida, included also are those from Texas, Pennsylvania, and of course, Canada (me). It’s a great bunch of mature, caring people. Presentations began at 9 AM on the subject of wellness for humans. With Krishna’s mercy, I conducted a 2-hour workshop on “9 Devotions,” not my first time, and I began with Mitrasena. His guitar and voice initiated the workshop covering the first two of the devotions – hearing and chanting. With this wholesome group, a beautiful fluidity of interactiveness took place.

Such a magnificent eventful retreat day one was.
The evening called for a bonfire and kirtan by the pond. In addition to Mitrasena’s guitar was James’ digeridoo. The combination was really lovely.
I cannot complain about the people, the food, the forum. The smooth sailing of today compensates for the challenges of the previous day. Being the weekend for remembering Martin Luther King, a program for reconciliation and healing such as this wins the hearts of the Vedic school.
