OUR DOINGS AND GOD'S DOINGS

Camp de Masque, Mauritius

A Lithuanian brahmacari monk joined us for a second consecutive day on the beach at Belle Mas for the walk, the swim, the song, the class and the food. Jagadisvara is in saffron like myself and loves the island of Mauritius. He’s giving serious thought to living here for a long stretch. “The Hindus here are pious.” He likes the community. He would be a nice addition to the group. I hope he finds his niche.

I went to visit Kala, a native of Mauritius, with French blood. He does housesitting as a current profession. It is beautiful to see him in an energetic and positive state of mind since he resigned from duties at Bon Accueil two years past. For him Krishna is not forgotten as we do not forget Him.

Today’s gathering of devotees took place in Camp de Masque, a place referred to as a “preaching centre”. It is a sizeable place, filled up with eager listeners. We analyzed the verse from the Gita 4.9 regarding Krishna’s auspicious coming to the world and His activities as they are divyam, or divine.

It can be a challenge at times to appreciate God’s doings. Last night I was taxed by the news that another godbrother, Gopan Ganapati, a Canadian, who passed away (by natural course, I believe) on the same day as Caru’s passing. That makes it two devotees who left this mortal world in one swoop. Both were pioneers of Krishna Consciousness. Gopan took up services in positions as treasurer of ISKCON Toronto and a post with Spiritual Sky Incense.

Rest in peace, dear Gopan!
