Central Island, Toronto
Like Montreal last weekend with all the excitement in the air for the Chariot Fest, that ecstasy continues to flow for Toronto this very weekend. It kickstarts with a twelve hour Kirtan session in the main temple hall.
Some of the big attractions of the city’s fest is the ride with three chariots under the tunnel, and lest we forget, the ferry ride to Centre Island, a piece of paradise where is restricted automobile traffic. Joe from Omni Television came over for an interview with myself just prior to the chanting marathon. I explained to him that you’ve got this heavenly vibration on the island with the pathways, grass, trees and water all around.
By the time it came to lunch I was meeting devotees in the park north of the temple, Jay Mc Pherron Park, who had come for the Bhakti thrill, from Florida, Michigan, New York and of course, centres in Canada such as Ottawa, Halifax and that is just the start. The chanting session was divine. I have the fortune to inaugurate.
We began with a quite and slow pacing. Then the tempo in the temple picked up as Kirtan lovers also created a flow.
“What a beautiful experience this is,” I thought. “What a party !”
I had to give some attention to the stage, sound and lights on Centre Island with my actors to familiarize ourselves with the technical side of the program for the following two days and the anticipation of the 40,000 people coming. That’s a good number. Our guru, Srila Prabhupada would be pleased.
