CHOSE YOUR USUALNESS

Yorkville, Toronto

It has become an integral part of our ashram life to highlight our founder/ acharya, Prabhupada, into the morning program by sitting down at least once a week and hear a recording of His Divine Grace. Before his departure from this world in 1977 his presence has become somewhat diminished. Newer candidates really need to become acquainted with him and feel a bond and capture his spirit.

Even for myself, to buckle down, and lend that ear to his transcendental voice is a sublime experience that should not be missed. Exposure to purity is essential to one’s spiritual growth. It is not that hearing from others is on any way flavoured. A special power comes from our founder. It should not be missed either from his japa voice or a  class from the Bhagvaatam.

My connection to Prabhupada on a daily basis lies in taking those walks by of a forest bath as His Divine Grace used to do. He visited us in Toronto in ’76 and ’77 and during those visits in summer he took to his habitual stroll. The two locations that I recall were 1) the Beaches boardwalk on Lake Ontario and 2) Taylor Creek Park off the Don Valley River system.

My trek today was not necessarily in a green space but in “the forest of material enjoyment” as the expression goes, or through the section of the concrete jungle. People are back at their corporate doings and kids are back at their school. There was a pleasant “ business as usual” take on the trail I chose - Yonge, Bloor, Spadina Streets. I do believe that for all the pedestrians there was a cleansing (maybe not a forest one) but a healing in the mere act of walking.
