Belle Mare, Mauritius
I retired for the evening but remained faithful to my usual schedule when coming to the incredible island slash nation of Mauritius. The venue is outdoors by the beach. Eighteen took to walking Belle Mare in unmarked trails cut through low-growing foliage and tall exotic trees, no medium-sized anything. There is an occasional stray dog lurking about. The quiet of the sunrise has us more or less focused on soft chanting.
There was the usual swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean. Watch out for what could be an urchin. One year I experienced the sharp penetration of one. Krishna sees to it that the world is full of dualities – comforts and the opposite. You just cannot get hooked to this world completely.
Outside the water we had a meaningful kirtan, Gita discussion, and breakfast at the most perfect setting.
I was really happy to see Rajesh, whom I first met with his motorcycle 14 years ago, step forward for diksha initiation at the Krishna Balaram temple in the late morning. His name is now Radhika Raman. Another candidate sat by the fire for his 2nd initiation and that is Jnana-shakti. I introduced him to the brahmin’s thread in addition to lowkey chanting of gayatri mantras.
Another disciple/ student, Dinanath, opened his home for an evening sangha where dozens of persons came to listen of pastimes of the Lion Avatar, about spiritual protection, and a mini class on conscious kirtan standards.
