Montreal, Quebec
Still in Toronto, and showing a new trail for the group of walking companions. We are dodging on foot the main motorists thoroughfares and taking to the neat hidden pathways at the University of Toronto. Near Yorkville we stood behind an artist's iron sculpture of a bull. It is symbolic. The bull stands for the principle of dharma and that's what we must always stand behind.
Now dharma, or duty, is always the obligation of a monk, and travel is one of them. Being the weekend of Ratha Yatra, the chariot of Jagannatha is taking place in the city of Montreal. Hari Prasad is my driver so it was just a smooth sail, so to speak, east to Montreal, the place of multiple churches and cathedrals. We reach there in time while congregants are cutting veggies for the subjees right outside by the street called Pie IX.
Devotees are happy wherever you go and the community here is no exception. Also happy is the vegetation in the city. Their best friends are the sun, rain, moon and wind and they have been coming around, I took the opportunity to take an evening walk onto Ontario Street where pedestrianism is enjoyed. Traffic is blocked off so residents can relish car-free evenings.
I camped myself by one of those gorgeous cathedrals for quiet mantra chanting. Darkness was upon us and now the most pleasant of rains touched reality.
