Burnaby, British Columbia

Though the yesteryear’s fire did damage, some items remained untouched. The school was unscathed.  Also, its apricot tree that experienced an amazing crop of fruit at Saranagati’s centre just off of Rathayatra Lane.  I took advantage of it.  Three of the sweetest were enough to gratify the palate.  I did the same with the choke cherry tree at our host’s home, just as Jaya Govinda and I were about to leave the valley destined for Kamloops.

We had a good sadhana together along with other sadhakas, practitioners of bhakti.  The verse from Canto 11 of the Bhagavatam highlights the importance of focus for mystic yogis whose aim is to stay in touch with the inner Supersoul.  We enjoyed the prasadam prepared by Damodara.

From the valley of the saints at Saranagati, Jaya and I headed for Kamloops throughout the mountains, most of which are barren but beautiful.  Mountain travel humbles just as flatlands do.  Afterall, what am I in the face of the elements?  Not much!

Once we reached Kamloops (where the rivers meet), our GPS failed us.  We were directed to the wrong part of town.  After gaining our bearings, we were greeted by mostly young families who had established themselves in Canada.  It was 6:30 PM and I suggested to the host, Hari Kirtan, that we eat first.  He and others were on board.  My logic to that is the children become relaxed, the food is warm, it is the right time to eat for digestive purposes, and everyone is not anxious over kirtan chanting session and any talk on the subject of Krishna, of course.
