THE SPRING OF LIFE

Tuesday, March 10th, 2026

Ramsden Park, Toronto

The beautiful thing about 17 Celsius weather is that the thaw is on. As a small group of us strode along in the park at a still dark hour, 6:30 AM, we passed by a neighbour with her dog. I took the liberty to offer a morning greeting.

“Spring is finally here!”

“Oh, don’t say it too loud,” responded the woman.

We had a little chuckle over that remark. Like her, I bear a dose of superstition. If God, or one of the many gods, listens to our utterings that may indicate we had a hold on destiny, then to remind us we are not in charge, some higher power will prove us wrong. For instance, tomorrow there could be a snow storm.

Whatever is the weatherly outcome, we simply have to accept. With the pleasantry that came to us in the form of great weather, I took advantage of a park bench for quite some time, and so did other members of our walking team.

There was one section of today where I grounded myself inside. I was scheduled to be on a call with Happy Jack, a yoga teacher who recently received his Divinity Degree from Harvard University. Well, that happened. It was a second time for me to be on his podcast. Our topic this time was about the joy derived from spiritual life. On the show I quoted from the Gita, Chapter 9 regarding the practice of bhakti yoga. “It is joyfully performed,” tells Krishna to His devotee, Arjuna. Whether favourable or unfavourable conditions, weatherwise or otherwise, approach life in a devotional manner and you’ll get the most out of it.

(The interview will be available on my YouTube channel playlist from Happy Jack Yoga's channel https://youtu.be/N0e8sNh5L8I ).
