OUR DAY FOR KRISHNA

Our seven-hour drive to the above named city, “The Soo” for short, went by as if in a 5 minute shot. I relish such rides as I can recall so many events that occurred along the way during my walking sessions on the Trans Canada Highway. It was 30 years ago that I tread along this trail.
Our journey from our ISKCON Huntsville Centre finished at John Rhodes Community Centre where we would celebrate Krishna’s birthday, also known as Janmasthami. In 2 1/2 hours our presentation included a talk first about my walking mission, then about Prabhupada, our guru and the significance of his mission, now 60 years of age, and finally about Krishna Himself and His teachings. I highlighted and made reference to the many books he was responsible for and publishing. Our team of three interjected with kirtan here and there. It served to embellish. Those present, one hundred, at least, were so attentive. The singing and dancing took off very nicely. And the Q & A segment was penetrating.
This was my first encounter with such a wholesome group of people. Previously when I came through this city of 75,000 there was next to zero results. It was enchanting seeing the participation and our BBT books being sold.
The program wrapped up by 9 pm. Three were three hours left to fill in for the momentous 12 midnight peak when Krishna was actually born. I was surprised to see my brother Paul, from the west coast send a text wishing me a Happy Birthday in regards to His Lordship’s appearance day. We drove to our favourite body of water, Lake Superior, wading in its freshness in addition to feeding a friendly fox whom we named Sox.
It was a day for fasting which we broke with feasting.
