OUR CALM BEFORE THE STORM

Monday, August 24th, 2026

Verdun, Quebec

Along that mighty river, the St. Lawrence, we were compelled to its wet experience. The sun was beckoning, so it seemed. “Last chance this summer which is swiftly closing down on us.” So we braved the river at an unofficial beach. We wanted some privacy. Well, we got it.

Amala, Leo, our sannyasi candidate from Switzerland, and I went for more than a dip. I can now declare I’ve bathed in the St. Lawrence, a first time.

More fun came from the afternoon’s cleansing in something more powerful. We made our way to Philip’s Square, Montreal, where devotees have sung and danced since the year of the Centennial. In 1967 Canada was first visited by Krishna monks, the time of the Expo, a celebration of one hundred years in operation under that national title. Our guru, Prabhupada, first came to Montreal in 1968. It was then that he inspired three couples from the U.S. to prepare themselves for delivering Krishna’s message to U.K. residents.

“This is a special spot,” I mentioned to Swiss monk, Krishna Prema Rupa, who appreciated this historical spot at the north side of St. Catherine’s street. There are few days left for squeezing out fun for the summer. School doors will soon open and revolving ones will be circulating as people in their business suits will busy themselves in profit making.

Yes, it was lovely at the Square. Mantras and books went out to the public. People do however carry on with their pedestrian vibe, unaware of future chaos. There are enough signs in the atmosphere to indicate trouble ahead.

This is the Kali Yuga, the time of a major haunting!
