Like the Geese

Winnipeg, Manitoba
For thousands of years, the Indigenous people of the area would meet at “the Peg” a nickname from The Cree word meaning “muddy water” by The Forks, the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers for trade and social intercourse. Now, in 2026 a group of Hare Krishnas have converged near that location at the Canad Hotel to discuss those things that matter.
The topics “Physician: Heal Thyself,” “Musical Education,” “Boil the Milk,” “Devotee Care,” “Bhakti Academy” were all relevant and informative. Frankly though, it was a long day, physically trying, while the messages to the ear were enriching. By the end of the day I craved for the out-of-doors. A group of us drove to the Forks to connect with the Assiniboine. How wonderful it was! And we admired the geese, all cuddled together. They reminded me of us, all united in purpose in that tight room for presentations. We eat together. We speak. We joke. We laugh. Well, these birds, situated at the water’s edge, were so happy.
Private victory before public victory is the mood. Be kind to yourself. You build up the community and expand from there. This is the way of growth. Growth is important, so is maintenance of people, buildings, utilities etc. The intent of our visit is to encourage each other. In that comraderie we feel strengthened, enlivened.
Those geese were a reminder of what we need to do to bond in order to get things done like James Bond, 007.
