Winnipeg, Manitoba

Every year ISKCON leaders from Canada and six northern states from the U.S. converge at a location for valuable sanga, association. The encouragement culture of Krishna Consciousness is the annual theme. More specifically this year we are zeroing in on “education.” That can be perceived as a central point in life.

Interestingly where we are located, and Winnipeggers know this, that this prairie city is at the heart beat of North America. You can check it out. If you measure from the northern most section of Canada to the southern tip of Mexico and take into account Canada’s far east and west coasts, you have Winnipeg pegged in the centre. That is something!

Our registration for leaders has reached its zenith. 108 reps and more came forth to receive their name tags for the event which from an activity point of view began with food — prasadam. The real desert was what followed. Raghunath from India is a motivational speaker. His “energizer” was a short documentary on the 2001 Mount Everest expedition featuring Erik Weihenmayer, who is a blind, led by mountaineer Pasquale Scaturro. This film is totally inspirational and it goes to show how effective team work is. That, to a large extent is the reason for our coming together — sanga. There is nothing more potent than that. There is collective talent, skill, integrity, energy amongst the group. We were asked to consider “What is your summit?”

What is so interesting about the climbing project at Everest was that Erik made his way up with his team and also on the entire way down. That takes team work.
