Ontario is a province I’ve lived in all my life, although I won’t lie, I’m not in it a good amount of time. I’m a sannyasi, a monk, who has that obligation to travel. Though I am currently in the east end of the province, as I wrote the entry for today’s blog, I have become familiar with various portions of its territory and terrain. For any walker (or driver for that matter) it is rather stretched out. Someone called it “Longtario.” Of the 7,800 kilometres, east-west length in Canada, Ontario is 2,000 of that. There is diverse features to Ontario — lots of wetlands, flat rich agricultural terrain, hills and some of the oldest rock in the world and although not boasting big mountains it has some of the best water and beaches for freshwater on our globe.
Recently I went on a trek with a group of 18 to 25 years olds from our Brampton community in central Ontario and we happily ambled along to Hilton Falls in the Halton Hills area, Niagara Escarpment region. It was really pleasant to be with our friendly giants — the trees — and with each other. We looked, learned and loved.
A highlight was organic kirtan in amidst maple, cedar and pine trees. We took in the good oxygen near those falls and relished each other’s company and in the name of Krishna Conscious company. After a relatively easy walk, we took to the best prasadam, mostly prepared by parents of the group. It was a win-win outing. I love this age group. By the way, it is the same age bracket of young people I travelled with on the buses for a good chunk of the summer. When Krishna appeared on earth everyone adored His youthfulness which stayed despite the years He put on while with us.
