HITTING HIGH POINTS

Burnaby, British Columbia

It was a good walk, a gradual climb on Gilley St. I’m in British Columbia where there are more mountains. Climbing or regularly using stairs as opposed to using elevators and being a bulk of the time on flat surfaces is good for cognitive functions and creative output. You get a bit more of a boost from the ascent and descent, so the experts say.

I turned a right at Kingsway, a street I’ve taken on my cross Canada walk. I turned left on Sperling. When I crossed at Stanley to reach my destination, there was a cross guard person, a woman, approaching middle age.

“Good morning!” I addressed her.

“It is my birthday!” she said.

“Now, let me guess, you turned 16 today?”

I know she was fibbing, but that’s okay. Friendship had begun. Kindness is the way to God. I believe the best comes out of a person when walking. The tendency to be open goes with the territory of walking.

Aside from being on the streets, my schedule called for a satsang at the home of Shanti Parayana, the head priest for our Burnaby community. Everyone seems quite happy with his services since he arrived from New Jersey. I just love it when a family (his family) smiles while offering a great Bengali meal. Their apartment is rather small, but adequate, and for this reason he couldn’t invite too many souls. Nevertheless, we had a great time reciting poetry highlighting some of the soaring goals in life. I was happy. I met great people. Giving some classes on Bhagavat philosophy also did me good. I’m blessed.
