Chatham, Ontario
The lookout over the southern wetlands was something Mahadev and I edged towards to view the incredible swamp wildlife before us. From a distance we could see two adult swans with a youngster of theirs plying about. There was an egert standing still like a yogi in meditation. I was anticipating to see some carp slithering about in the musky water, but at the standing lookout some humans were there. One of them, a woman from South India, started talking with questions.
“Hello ! How are you? Are you a priest? A Canadian? (I answered). Then she turned from friendly tonation to another direction. Then she mentioned a verse I’ve heard only so many times regarding “one way, the only way.” I realised that we were not in a conversation. It was one way. Slowly Mahadev backed away realising that it was our cue to go. And it was time to exit Pelee Island. The ferry was about to arrive.
From the Island we moved, docked at Leamington to then make our way to the town where I was born, Chatham. My middle sister, Rose Ann, still lives there. She has friends and still keeps active after Jim, her husband passed.
When we arrived at School St. and her residence, so did her friends, Mumbi, Krys and Neil. We converged - Mahadev, Annapurna, myself and Rose Ann and her friends. Her place resembles a studio. After hugs and sit downs and introductions, I suggested we chant together which my sister really agreed to. We were all relishing the song and the music at this impromptu Kirtan. I thought it was the perfect platform upon which to be with my dear sister. The communication with God and this group of people was great.
