It was Vraja Bilas’ birthday today, a graduate from Bhakti Academy.  Outside his tone-deafness, he’s the perfect guy.  To honour him on his 31st, a carob cake with a layer of the famous gulab jamins made it a double decker – something different, but delicious, nevertheless.

While Vraja gets all the attention, so it seems, there is another personality under the spotlight as well, and that is one of the favoured avatars.  We are speaking about the walking avatar – Vamana.

We have brought to your awareness several notable Vedic walkers.  Krishna’s brother, Balaram, is one of them.  He trekked from holy place to holy place during the time of the Kuruksetra war.  Vidura also comes to mind.  Insulted by his arrogant nephew, Vidura left the residential palace for more than a walk in an episode of the epic, The Mahabharata.

Vamana is that cherished young brahmin boy who proves that it only takes three steps to get into the incredible hall of fame while proving that one’s guru can be rejected when he misbehaves.  It is a great story of cosmic proportions making Vamana one of the most desirable personalities to meditate on.

There is never a time on the Vaishnava lunar calendar that can be considered dull.  There is always an appearance or disappearance of a god or goddess to be remembered.  It makes for an exciting year, and the celebrations are always worth living for.
