Silver Lake, Ontario
James from Ottawa was my guy to take me back home — back to Toronto. I was intending to make the trip adventurous and with a pilgrimage quality to it. “Let’s break up this usual five hour drive,” I said to James. He was quite keen for a little recreation.
Through the perfect weather, rain overnight and sun, at a moderate temperature, was ideal for our car zipping through farm and rock country. At Silver Lake, off of a branch of the Trans Canada Highway was our stop over place. The water was healing. We dove in. Our appreciation for Krishna became enhanced because of the setting as beautiful as it is, and the mental/physical calming effect it had on us.
Next, as part of our adventure, we also stopped at Peterborough to check on our friends who ran a Bhojan Restaurant on George St. Well, as is common these days, eateries are difficult to sustain, so this restaurant closed and was replaced for Indian groceries and spices. They had good veggie food but what was important was to reconnect with our friends.
For a special treat James and I stopped at a true sacred place — the boardwalk at Woodbine Beach where our dear Prabhupada stepped in the summer of 1975. This was a walk and a dip thrill once again.
On arrival to my room at the temple, I rushed to set up for the Tuesday night zoom call. James joined for our reading and discussion on Chapter 11.38 to 42. What nectar? What especially struck us where Arjuna says, “You are air, fire, water, etc.” That elemental connection with God well resonates with our phone group. In any event James and I had a full-on day of colour, richness, beauty for body and soul.
