A NEW NEST

Sunday, September 29th, 2024

Mississauga, Toronto

The Culham Trail is an attractive piece of a serene pathway that runs along the Credit River in Streetsville, a small city incorporated into the much larger Mississauga City, population 850,000. The Credit River has always been a very living stream of water that fish like. Nimai Nitai and I had the pleasure of covering a distance of that trail before entering the community centre, now used as our space as a weekly operated Iskcon facility for devotional services.

We entered the foyer, and were given the scissors for a ribbon cutting ceremony. This day was chosen as the grand opening for Iskcon Mississauga to function. The turn out of 500 plus shows the interest in the project. There was such a eutrophic enthusiasm permeating the large hall making it another affirmation that this new centre would be a draw. The board of directors and board of officers were members beaming with joy during kirtan, speeches, some ritual and finally the most excellent topping on the cake - the prasadam or blessed (double blessed) food.

The whole operation of ushering in the new branch in the Mississauga, which in the indigenous Ojibwe means “the river with many outlets”, was so smooth. Many residents following and attending at Brampton’s Iskcon Centre for the past so many years. Now a centre of enlightenment will stand on its own two feet, generating an interest for newcomers to come.
