WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

Monday, July 7th, 2025

Queen's Park, Toronto

They are just 2 or 3 weeks old – twins of parents, Parama Gauranga and Rukmini, and for these two boys it was their first visit to a temple.  They behaved like a couple of rsis (sages), as quiet as could be.  Basically, they slept through the whole ceremony, a name-giving ceremony.  The oldest one has the name Nimai, and the fellow that was born following his brother received the name Nitai Rama.  The crackling of the small firepit did not phase them in the least.

Well, that was a program of charm.  We were all servicing these two little Vaishnavas.

At noon, I met Karen who came in advance of the rest of the group, all 50 of them, practically all seniors.  They hail from both the USA and Canada, and are keen to learn about the different spiritual paths under the directorship of Brian Carwana representing “World Religion Encounter.”

One of the gentlemen sitting and enjoying the prasadam had numerous questions, but I had one for him.

“Where are you from?”

“From everywhere!”

He clarified that he is in the travel mode and that from going to New York to see his twin son and daughter, he has no fixed destination at this point.  He is enjoying his ‘freedom’, simple way of life, and learning so much along the way.  In listening to him, I felt as though I was communicating with a sannyas, a monk who is thriving on his detachment from the world.  As usual, Brian brings us the most splendid people.
