Yorkville, Toronto
Recently, a person from Australia asked me to recommend which books to read on the science of bhakti (devotion), and I suggested the four texts that our guru, Prabhupada, encouraged his students to study. They are Bhagavad-gita As It Is, Bhagavatam, Nectar of Devotion, and Chaitanya Charitamrita (or Teachings of Lord Chaitanya).
I said in my correspondence that if you get these publications down, familiarizing yourself and applying the practices, you are doing very well in the devotion category.
I additionally suggested ALL of the books authored by him. And then, of course, is the material written ABOUT him by biographers/writers who have shared with us the experiences they had with Prabhupada.
After today’s walk in Yorkville, I got back to Chasing Rhinos with the Swami by Shyamasundar Das. What a masterpiece that is! I continue to be enthralled by the details outlined in this three-volume set. It is printed in Montreal, yet that doesn’t mean those of us in Canada are privileged; this is a read for everyone. You just can’t go wrong with hearing about or hearing from this extraordinary saint who offered so much in the area of conscious living.
My most calming evenings for sleep, when I actually get some, come from the endless amount of lesson recordings from Prabhupada. I run them all night. There is some power there.
“Purity is the force,” is something he used to say.
