I am a lucky guy who gets to live in the residential quarters of where our guru, Prabhupada, stayed in June of 1976. I sleep where he slept, not on the same bed, of course. That wooden-based bedstand is preserved and on display in the next room which is set in his sitting quarters.
Three men came into the bedroom quarters to do some renovations. They are professionals, and our hiring them becomes an act of devotion towards His Divine Grace Prabhupada. For starters, the carpet was ripped out and the tiles below them. More work will continue tomorrow with the expressed desire to finish with a fresh look in honour of our founder. The donor towards the project is Dave Patel, and he is approaching it with deep devotion. Over the phone, I heard him tell the threesome, “Don’t cut any corners! I want a good job done!”
“Yes! Yes!” addressed the workers in full agreement.
While the labourious work took place, I found myself packing and preparing with great enthusiasm for my trip to the Netherlands with great anticipation to set foot in the land of my ancestors. One well wisher from the west coast sent a message reflecting Tiny Tim, “Will you be tiptoeing through the tulips?” This walk will be a novel trek apart from the sentimental value behind the project.
Looks like I’m being paged for gate E49 destined for Amsterdam. Wish me luck!
