Bon Accueil, Mauritius
Sunday has always been a special day for the Hare Krishnas. In the movement’s infancy stage our open house concept started in New York in 65/66 with what became the Sunday Love Feast. Many people know that when Steve Jobs was in college he took advantage of that happening. I know from meeting people in my travels that the food helped them through college with the tasty prasadam yet cheap that students could afford.
Well, out here in Mauritius, it may not be a student population but enthusiasts quiet settled in life, love the food, the chanting and the talk.
My verse by choice was 4.2 about teachers who follow a chain. The verse explains that education started with Krishna Himself. The precious content of the Bhagavad Gita is testimony to Krishna’s involvement in the dissemination of jnanam or wisdom. I had the pleasure of sharing this knowledge hand-me-down to the congregation. For many of them the phrase parampara is known to them. It is a chain of gurus.
I was happy for this day which included this sharing to a packed temple room. Earlier in the morning, because it’s Sunday, 40 people joined our morning safari, if you will. And finally one of the families opened their home to a satsang. Maha Lakshmi is the name of the host, and her meal was to die for. But we also went wild at Kirtan time and there was the talk on Kirtan standards once again. Our Sunday was packed with pleasantries.
