Mayapura, West Bengal

Shiva Ratri celebrations have been going on, lots of noise at night. Dogs do their howling and barking through those same hours. It gets interesting. For my shower, I see brown water coming out. Things don’t always work out as you wish.
At the mangal arati in the Samadhi building, the sound is all but audible. The mantras you cannot decipher. The acoustics are such that it can’t lend itself to a clean sharpness in sound. It can be irritating.
I attended the class by Prahladananda Swami, and that was enriching. Following that, a ritual for a family commenced, however, the chanting leader was breaking all the rules for kirtan standards. He led with a “Nitai Nitai Nitai Nitai Gauranga,” which is not recommended. He followed up with other concoctions. Then he sang, “Jaya Gurudeva,” which our guru, Prabhupada, did not favour.
I brought these points to his attention, which he gratefully absorbed. There is hope.

I moved over to the Pancha Tattva Hall where the 12-hour kirtan was being held. I began to dance before The Fab Five – incarnations of the Lord for this current age of quarrel, but I did it solo. Some minutes later, four young men in white joined me. That got resolved.
Where there are problems, we look for resolutions. I left the Hall and met two monks. One of these brahmacharis said, “I am from Russia. He (pointing to his friend) is from Ukraine. We get along just fine.” There are solutions.
