Halifax, Nova Scotia
I woke up this morning like most, in these last few days, to the smell of mustard oil in the air, a residue to the work of massage therapy, which puts me to sleep, sweetly. I took my shower, donned my clothes and headed for the BLT trail for the walk along the lake at Halifax’s east end. There are over 1,000 lakes in the city’s district. That’s impressive.
I was happy to meet Paul on the trail. He was stretching against a bench at the time as I passed by. It was a warm, “Good morning!” Minutes later I heard footsteps behind me. They caught up to me. They belonged to Paul. It was appeasing, talking to someone familiar with the eight-fold yoga and more particularly, the message of the Bhagavad-gita. We spoke for a while about dharma, duty, and bhakti, love.
I also met the usual cyclist on this trail. It seems every time I come, there is Aggy, who works for Natural Resources. As we spoke, a loon was soaring above with that super sound it makes.
“Aggy, it was good fortune to have that creature above us like that.” The last time I met Aggy, we were talking of beavers. This morning, it was a bit about her husband, 73, who speaks about the golden era, in the 60’s, about love and not hate.
When I returned by to my accommodation, the home of Ambrish and Anchul, I looked at my messages. Aha, a friend from Miami sent me a photo of his last day at work (teaching). His retirement announcement was a happy one. Many other beautiful things occurred in the day. At a trip to Peggy’s Cove a few of us met aging Dave, a highlander, playing his Scottish bag pipes. And then, and alphorn player, who, at Dave’s intervals, played his alphorn, added to the spiritual atmosphere of the Cove, attracting thousands every day. Today I met and heard the best.
