Men Presenting

Moundsville, W. Virginia

It was a pleasure having pawpaw fruit, my favourite as an item for breakfast. It gave enough energy to fuel the activities of the day, which was mostly to prepare for my presentation, the drama. Practice does not make perfect but it certainly improves matters.

I managed, with Krishna’s mercy, to get some rehearsals in, however, it did become a hindrance to attending sessions of the MANTRA retreat. All presenters took their preparatory time prior to their delivery. I feel partially justified in ‘skipping out’ because I am dealing with actors and technical people who came from different parts of the continent and this was the only opportunity to make it happen. With some flight delays and scheduling for arrival at the last minute (people have school and work) it was tough.

I managed to slip in one presentation today on the topic of “How Men Deal With Grief.” Ekavira from Pennsylvania spoke well on the topic. I missed Canada’s own Partha who presented “Emotions”. Public opinion often raises the question whether men have any emotions at all. I find that opinion awkward when males are known to exhibit anger quite well.

The junk of the day for me was practice and performance which didn’t give me much time for feelings. I took some shots during the make-up period. It was hilarious seeing Raj, MANTRA’s project manager, in drag as Madame Vivelda, a fortune teller. All the actors did splendid. I am looking forward to the premiere of “Krishna Protects Women and Children,” a new musical video based on a recent poem I wrote.

Overall this day and the weekend in general is a fine uplifting event. I’m not sure why more Krishna Conscious communities are not hosting men’s retreats?
