Getu and I share something in common. While I pride myself in walking, he is an acclaimed runner. A refugee from Ethiopia who has now been in Canada for three years, he now Ubers as part time work. In fact, he was driving myself and dear Godbrother and sister, Partha and Uttama, to the temple after a visit to another Godsister, Praharana.
Getu has won many running awards and has traveled to many countries in tournaments. Currently, he keeps up his sport three times a week doing 16 kilometres at a stretch, although he suffers from some injury by the ankle. I told him of my marathon walks; he was impressed, especially at my first cross-Canada trek at 8,000 kilometres.
I believe Krishna put us together for those few brief moments in his vehicle. He is one of those tall lanky black boys who can go at breakneck speed and enthuse everyone. I wish more people could take to looking after themselves; however, like Getu who comes from a politically hot struggling place, that freedom doesn't always avail itself to all.
I am so happy to be in Canada for that reason. The country here is far from perfect, but when you compare to all other places in this world, it is relatively pleasant. By the way, the elections which occurred federally, took place yesterday determining the Prime Minister for the next 5 years. Mark Carney from the Liberal Party won the campaign. I believe we will continue to exercise our freedom to exercise bhakti yoga for the coming years. I do have doubts about the future, though. There are certain mindsets that make me personally concerned.
