Huntsville, Ontario
Here I am in a small place, Huntsville, where rare is a monk to be seen. Since our mission is firmly established with a temple, a restaurant and living facilities, and on Main St., it becomes a beautiful obligation to get to know the town and its people simply through walking. Those three sections of the day-morning, afternoon and evening were the allocated times to make this happen successfully.
The dawn of the day was spent with my footsteps on Main St. east which is where many of the businesses are found, then I wound up exploring the side streets. There are the occasional dog sitters that stroll along, pedestrians on their way to work and being garbage day, some folks put out their trash for pick up. Exchanges are brief but meaningful.
Despite the usual activeness with daily admin work, myself and two couples found time for an hour at Hutchinson’s Beach to take perhaps our last dip in liquid goodness before the summer’s end. A short walk at the beach’s country road made for more interaction, although few people can know about my religious affiliation being in a bathing suit with towel. Whatever !
My evening stroll was the most productive in terms of connecting with people. Outside a bar where I was passing by, a voice called me over. That was so interesting . The chat that ensued was very purposeful - all about bonding and getting to know each other.
When my new friends were sipping beer in this outdoor venue by the river, we simply got closer to each other and, naturally Krishna became a major component in our thoughts. There was a marvellous openness there.
