Sudbury/Huntsville/Stouffville, Ontario
I was set up to have a room in the Radisson hotel in downtown Sudbury for overnight. The advantage of this was to walk some of the streets where I lived 52 years ago in my college days. It would be like going down memory lane. Not surprisingly, one change that I've seen since those days, was that there used to be no homeless folks or beggars dominating the streets. It just wasn't an issue in 72/73 when I was there. Then there was another element that I encountered, I met a Nepalese fellow in his 30s (I won't mention his name). I later discovered that he faced charges of sexual assault on Indigenous children.
Sudbury is a nice community, but the downtown, well! Right near the hotel is the Church of Christ the King. It was here that I went to mass on a Sunday just before I met those 5 Krishna monks when I was pondering what I would do with myself. I wondered if I’d end up as a starving artist. I was 20. After I finish breakfast prasadam, sourdough bread topped by avocado, Amala, Pradeep, and I headed for Huntsville. We were going to the temple on Main for an arati chanting session. This was brief, but a halfway mark to our destination in Stouffville. Our community in Stouffville just received the OK to hold their first Chariot Fest at Memorial Park. They're all excited about it the Sunday sermon was my responsibility on this visit. If anything, it was a pep talk about chariots and festivals and dreaming big and doing big. A realtor among the congregants wants to develop a seniors’ village for Vaishnavas or Krishna devotees northeast of Toronto. He is thinking big!
