HURDLES

Sunday, March 22nd, 2026

Niagara Falls, Ontario

A major protector in the eyes of Krishna’s devotees is the avatar, Narasingha, the lion incarnation. It is very natural to appeal to His shelter when He sits there in the most mighty way with the defenceless young Prahlad by His side.

Before Jagannatha and I parted for Canada this morning I stood before the strong and powerful man/lion asking for guardianship. In New Vrindavana’s temple He is a prominent image and I was determined to have someone bless our journey back home before entering the breakneck-speed traffic. Wherever I travel I hear of so many accidents people have found themselves implicated in. So, just to be sure.

Also, before departing, I was speaking with one of the residents of New Vrindavana about another death threatening situation. A resident monk, Varshana Swami, has been suffering from lyme disease for years. Lyme disease is apparently endemic across much of the Northern Hemisphere and not limited to West Virginia. Deer carry the disease in the form of ticks and sheep are also known to spread this hazardous pest.

Welcome to the material world, full of hurdles.

Jagannatha and I had arranged to break up our journey by stopping off at the gathering place for kirtan in Niagara Falls, which happens every Sunday. With pleasure I spoke and led the chanting. It was sweet sitting down with devoted members of our London, Ontario group who attended. Although we are not officially an Iskcon Centre as of yet, we gathered together to encourage a future development there. It is all about growth.
