HAPPY BIRTHDAYS

Monday, March 24th, 2025

Rosedale, Toronto

Are birthdays important to celebrate in ashrams or monasteries? Some people might argue, “What is the use in honouring the body which is not our true identity and which is destined to die? The body is a mere bag of chemicals.” Of course, some folks in today’s world give glory to drugs and chemicals. Let’s have a party!

One thing to consider is that those who have given quality time in service to the Lord through the channel of the body, where it is not just perceived as a machine, but an instrument in Krishna’s service, should be honoured, appreciated, and loved.

Today, our dear Harakumar turned 75; he has lived most of his life in Krishna consciousness. So, we wished him a “Happy Birthday”, made him a cake, and sang the most famous song in the world, “Happy birthday to you…” with a Hare Krishna twist to it. He is our treasurer, part security duty officer, and does a host of other things. Personality-wise he is a bit of an introvert, but we won’t hold that against him. He hails from Clinton, Ontario, and we love him.

Also, one of our members of the Bhakti Academy has her birthday. She is from Ethiopia and we also wanted to recognize her on her 21st. She is quiet and very saintly and is beautiful inside and outside.

Wishing people a Happy Hatchday, or whatever you want to call it, is simply showing appreciation and there is never enough of that.
