Brampton, Ontario
“Goodbye and a Hare Krishna to you,” I said to the young men and women in Sudbury, then dashed southbound to Barrie for a shift of vehicles to further south to Etobicoke, a household for chat and walk by the Humber River before party in Brampton.
Whose birthday ? Mine ! How was it different ? It was a reunion of the first wave of devotees in the Hare Krishna movement. That meant over a dozen veterans, if you will, all given the royal treatment for dinner first, then followed by a five minute talk from each on the early days. The program shaped up real nice with attention towards my friends and me instead of just myself.
The room was packed. Our seniors, if I could use that term, were quite impressed that such a large number of people knew the standard bhajans or songs dedicated to guru and God. The reason behind that reality is that these members of the community are well trained. It has been some 45 years or so since, many of our seniors have been active in Iskcon’s institutional ways. Tonight’s event was an eye-opener that much work has been done to educate the good number of people involved in bhakti yoga over the last few decades. It is something to be proud of.
All in all, we had a great time and I would say it’s my best birthday yet !
