Deland/Alachua Florida

Yes, Florida has gone cold.  But not on its own.  The whole continent is under the influence of an Arctic blast.  Sections of the state with “Sunshine Coast” written on the license plates, is now a snow haven.  The schools will be closed tomorrow due to rain and water predicted to turn into ice.  Florida is just not ready for this kind of stormy weather.

This morning after the Bhagavatam class, I returned home to my hosts for a needed massage by an expert, Ram, who told me that the manatees (sea cows) are gathering together along some of the local coastlines to keep each other warm.

“Manatees,” he said, “are very docile creatures.”  He emphasized they are harmless, sizeable, somewhat sociable.  In any event, wildlife and humans (who are more ‘wild’) are reacting to unusual weather.

By evening, cold rain was coming, yet our sangha program went on in a new subdivision.  People braved the weather.  We began the program with prasadam (blessed food), kirtan (chanting), and then a Zoom “Gita Chat” from chapter 8 regarding the different times at which one can decide when to leave this mortal world.  It gets technical in this chapter.  Our guru, Srila Prabhupada, expressed in the purport that for one who is always absorbed in Krishna consciousness, the time of leaving doesn’t really matter, but what does matter is one’s state of mind.  If the mind is with God at that critical moment of departure, then you will be with God.

Yam yam vapi smaran…”

With weather the way it is, it’s always good to be prepared.
