Joburg/Durban, South Africa
Here I am beck in South Africa, land of the wild, and also of the curious. It was our 3 pm practice time in the temple of Radha Radhanath, when myna birds were singing, as well as the occasional low flying hadeda bird, when a group of seniors came inside to look around. I don’t imagine they had ever seen deities of Krishna before, let alone a bunch of thespian devotees acting out the eight elements – five gross and three subtle. For visitor such as these, whom I guess have a Christian background, they must find us interesting. At least the place was alive with activity.
It was my first session with our production team of community theatre. Both locals and volunteers from Johannesburg came together for voice and body exercise. Casting was done. I’ve selected two chaps to play the role of Krishna and Arjuna. All goes well with the utmost cooperation. It is my desire that the stage performers and technical folks all get a learning experience out of this.
God knows that there is such a lack of spiritual presentation in the world. It is unquestionably the sign of the times, being, as we say, the age of Kali – darkness and doubt. People need to acquire upliftment from somewhere, otherwise, you are surely left with the mundane.
